Nan Clayton PTA Expenditure Vision and Strategy

The Nan Clayton Elementary PTA provides at least two programs to Clayton Elementary School with every major fundraiser, according to Texas PTA recommendations.

The Clayton PTA, together with school administrators, envisions that acquired funds are spent with the greatest return on investment to the school and its community.

Examples of expenditure categories include:

  • Classroom curriculum and technology
  • Teacher support
  • Campus improvements
  • School and community programs.

In the 2023-2024 school year, the major fundraisers were the Fall Fun Run and Spring Adults-Only CLAYTON ROCKS! event. The Clayton PTA envisions that its major fundraisers bring some implicit value to the school and are not simply “asks” for monetary donations.

In the 2023-2024 school year examples, the Fall Fun Run and its on-campus program were offered to and accessible by all Clayton students without discrimination or exception, and the Spring Adults-Only CLAYTON ROCKS! event was thoughtfully designed to foster community-building among Clayton caregivers by creating a more “adult” atmosphere with its venue, entertainment, food, and beverages.

In the 2023-2024 school year, the Clayton PTA provided or funded the following programs and opportunities for the school and community:

  • Educational programs with medical and behavioral health professionals and a forum with the Austin ISD District 7 board trustee at PTA general member meetings
  • Family Fitness Night
  • James Wand “Operation Bully Free” Magic Show
  • Culture Night
  • Spring Carnival
  • Science Fair
  • The Accelerated Reader (AR) independent reading practice program (for Clayton students)
  • Graduating High School Senior Scholarships
  • Monthly Festive FriYAYs and Back-to-School-Night dinner for Clayton staff
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion book club and local community-building events
  • Partnership with the special education program speaker circuit
  • National PTA Reflections Arts Program (at the school level)

According to the Clayton PTA Standing Rules, each semester, an Expenditure Committee reviews the expenditures proposed by school administration, teachers, and the school community. The Expenditure Committee comprises existing Executive Board members, including the President, the Treasurer, a chair appointed by the President, and at least one other Executive Board member. Proposed expenditures are prioritized, and funds are allocated – as they are available – by Executive Board and general member vote.

The Clayton PTA Executive Board invites you to be an active PTA member and be part of the proposal and voting process. The Clayton PTA Executive Board also invites you to join the Executive Board to serve as a more consistent voice and participate in the expenditure prioritization process if appointed to the Expenditure Committee.

Vision and strategy were initially adopted by the PTA Executive Board in February 2024. School year specific content is updated annually.
